Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers enjoy their key fob's handy remote features. They can lock and unlock their vehicle as well as start the motor and even locate it via a smartphone application.
First, put the fob of the key on a clean work surface with the logo facing upward. Find the button that will release it. Place a coin in between the cover of the fob and the fob, and carefully pull it up.

The Engine is Ready to Start

If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, that's an indication that it's time to replace the battery.
You can enable this feature using the key fob if the vehicle is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will then cool or heat to the same temperature it was set at when it was parked, and will continue to run for a maximum of 15 minutes.
With a fingernail, remove the cover on the back of the key fob. Under the cover, on a diagonal near the body's edge you should find an unidentified button. Slide it down and to the right. The cover will then fall loose and slide off to reveal the manual key blade! If you are unable to locate the button, look around the newly revealed manual key access to find a hidden lever or slot.
Close the Windows
One of the nefarious features that is not visible on Volvo key fobs is the ability to roll down all of the windows at once when you use them. This is very useful when you are trying to squeeze into tight parking spaces or just want to breathe fresh air while driving.
To do this do this, press and hold down the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower all the windows, as well as the sunroof in case your car has one. After you've finished using the vehicle, you can shut all windows by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to activate your car's panic alarm. It will sound an intense, attention-grabbing roar that could frighten away thieves and help you get home safe after a long night out. This feature is great if you live in a dangerous area, or want to keep your family safe while away from home.
Opening the Tailgate
Volvo's key fob is stuffed with many useful features. They are perfect when you're slammed with shopping or helping your kids pack their sports gear after a workout.
If you have the Hands-Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) Then you can open it using the key fob. It is possible to open the liftgate by pressing the button and then close it with the same button.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are more practical than a mechanical car key. They aren't always working perfectly and the batteries may be dead. It is possible to program your key fob at home in case you are in a rush or don't have the time to go to the shop.
Set out your key fobs batteries, keys, and other keys on a clean surface. Place the key fob with the Volvo logo facing upwards, then locate a small black button at the left side of the fob. Slide it to the right. The cover will begin to loosen and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade beneath it.
You can open all doors as well as the rear gate by pressing the unlock button on the key fob twice. The lock button will also close the windows and the sunroof (if equipped) by pressing it for two seconds. Connect the battery, and the alarm should cease. If it doesn't then the owner's manual must include a reset method.
